A career based in transformation: implementing valuable change

“I love discovering all the unique teams and skillsets we have, almost every day I uncover someone or something fascinating. I’m constantly learning and adapting.

Paul Hodson, Senior Director of our Center of Excellence, Digital Solutions, Worley Consulting, started building his career as a Petroleum Geoscientist with an interest in technology.

Paul began his career delivering technical consulting and training in 3D subsurface modeling for exploration and development. Soon after, he moved to an operating company where he gained experience both on the rig and behind the screen.

After joining a large management consultancy firm, Paul entered the world of digital transformation for energy and mining where he became familiar with and inspired by our ambition and people. Fuelled by a connection to our values and motivations, Paul joined our team and now leads our Digital Center of Excellence where he witnesses advanced global digital implementations firsthand.

Transforming Worley’s digital landscape

Paul has two roles: first, he supports the global delivery of digital first offerings like digital twins, autonomous operations and robotics; the second is digitally transforming our wider consulting business.

Key to these responsibilities is finding the balance between innovation and strategic thinking, ensuring continued value throughout the life of the project, something he and his team are well equipped for.

“Rapid technology advancements are transforming every aspect of our work deliverables. From desktop studies to operational technology in the field, implementing change with focus on value is the hard bit.”

Endless possibilities and potential

In Paul’s opinion, what sets us apart from many of our competitors and allows us to take full advantage of these technologies is our people and experience. We start by identifying the issues holding businesses back, keeping in mind the crucial role of digital levers, but the real difference comes in our delivery. We don’t just advise, our wealth of knowledge comes from our ability to deliver and implement the strategies we develop.

With the wider public now able to access powerful technologies like IoT and AI as part of their normal routines, Paul believes the possibilities within an industrial setting are endless. Value and risk must, however, continue to be prioritized, “Digital technology has enormous potential to increase safety, improve productivity and allow collaboration around the value chain and supply chains like never before.” Paul says.

Essentially, when the correct solutions are implemented, the benefits can’t be overlooked.

Aiming high looking forward

“A decade is a lifetime in the context of digital. I can imagine that a few years from now data centricity will be mainstream, with data being freely accessible across the whole value chain from the valve to the board room.”

Going forward, there’s far more to be done in the context of the digital transformation, and Paul and his team have big ambitions.
