From designer to dealmaker: How collaborative teams win bids

“If you really know what you want and go for it, you can get it.”

For Enrica Paez, no two days – and no two proposals – are ever the same. As an Inside Sales Manager in our Dubai team, she oversees bids from their beginning through to final submission, coordinating with teams across the business to ensure tailored solutions for every customer.

“I’m connecting everyone and making sure all their ideas and inputs are captured,” she says. “My calendar is always full.”

From engineers and project managers to accounts, quality and assurance and the front-facing sales team, Enrica is the glue holding it all together. The complexity of her role is part of what she enjoys most. “There is a lot of interaction from different stakeholders – you deal with all other departments within Worley.”

Expanding opportunities

Having been with us for more than 20 years, Enrica’s seen plenty of changes. “Now, the range of projects is much broader – including renewable technologies – and the organization is more complex, with an expanded hierarchical structure.”

Her journey to becoming part of our team started far from sales. After graduating from university in the Philippines, Enrica began her career designing shopping malls. Her early experience in architecture took her to Abu Dhabi. She then joined us as a graduate engineer in nearby Dubai, where she was often tasked with working on industrial design projects.

Soon after, she transitioned into business development. “It’s a challenging role,” she says, each proposal bringing something different. “In hydrocarbons, for example, it’s more straightforward as the clients really know what they want, and it’s much easier to focus on those requirements,” she explains. “With infrastructure proposals, there is often less guidance.”

Enrica says the experience of working in the UAE is one that opens doors. “There are a lot of opportunities,” she says. “If you really know what you want and go for it, you can get it.”

Shifting the gender balance

While men still outnumber women in engineering, Enrica notes the balance is shifting, as she starts to see more women in the industry across the Middle East.  “They are slowly becoming more open,” she adds. “That’s a good change.” This openness extends past work to finding balance with her home life, something Enrica finds support in, being kept equally busy by her two sons as she is with work.

The open culture of our Abu Dhabi office is one of the things she values most.

“Everyone is very approachable and friendly,” she says. “I like being in the office, just talking and being with my colleagues. Everyone makes sure everyone else is okay.”

Never stop learning

Looking back, Enrica says the job has shaped her in many ways. “I’ve learned a lot at Worley. So many people mentored me in my early years. It helped me get to where I am today.”

She’s also taken full advantage of our training opportunities. “It’s been 20 years of continuous learning for me,” she says.

Her advice to others thinking about joining our team? “Once you are in, you can explore and learn a lot,” she says. “Worley is a great place. They encourage people to really grow and are open to possibilities.”
