GAS Project: a major milestone in Australia’s energy history

The Gippsland Asset Streamlining (GAS) project, supported by Worley, represents a monumental transformation in the Australian energy sector. The primary objective of the project was to enable the cessation of oil production from Bass Strait while maintaining reliable production of gas and condensate to serve the eastern Australian energy market.

Project overview

The GAS Project involved the decoupling of gas production from oil, a significant undertaking that required detailed understanding of the assets, evaluation of options, and planning of complex brownfield work. Worley was selected as a trusted partner to progress the conceptual development of this significant project. The project included modifications and upgrades across Gippsland facilities, including four offshore platforms and two onshore gas plants.

Key achievements

The project team implemented a rigorous program of quality audits, technical peer reviews, and risk assessments, adding significant value through the repurposing of used equipment, which lowered total installed cost and improved lead times. The project also achieved zero safety incidents, with a strong focus on psychosocial safety, team morale, and the link between quality and safety.

It’s been a pleasure to be part of such a critical project, shaping Australia's energy future.
