Worley supports renewable hydrogen development in Australia with strategic advisory study
Worley has completed a strategic advisory study for the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA), providing executive‑ready insight to inform strategic planning and decision‑making on renewable hydrogen development.
Commissioned by ARENA, the study examines the capital cost drivers shaping the future of renewable hydrogen production and identifies practical opportunities to reduce costs over time, supporting efforts to improve commercial viability.
The study moves beyond conventional hydrogen cost forecasts that rely heavily on high‑level learning‑rate assumptions, instead focusing on the specific actions that can materially influence capital costs over time.
Worley’s Australia‑based team delivered the study, supported by global hydrogen and project delivery expertise, and examined 24 independent capital cost‑reduction concepts, assessing their combined impact across future development horizons.
The work was developed with a strong emphasis on transparency, with the aim of enabling decision‑makers to clearly understand how individual levers interact – and where the greatest opportunities lie.
“We were asked to take one step beyond typical hydrogen cost studies and be explicit about what will actually move the needle on capital costs,” said Christian Dorgelo, Associate, Advisory at Worley Consulting. “By breaking the problem down into individual levers and showing how they work together, the study provides insight that can directly inform strategic decisions.”
The study has already supported executive‑level discussions within ARENA and contributed to broader planning.
