APA selects Worley to strengthen Australia’s gas transmission network
APA Group has selected Worley as its engineering partner to support emerging gas transmission and storage projects across its gas transmission network nationally.
Under an exclusive three-year engineering partnership, Worley will work with APA to deliver its phased and scalable infrastructure development program aimed at reducing constraints, increasing optionality and improving system flexibility.
The program reflects APA’s commitment to support Australia’s energy security and transition, strengthening domestic gas supply and helping to address projected gas shortfalls in southern markets on Australia’s east coast.
Building on APA and Worley’s existing relationship, this partnership spans APA’s national gas transmission and storage network, targeted at increasing capacity and system resilience where it’s needed most.
APA has adopted a portfolio based partnering model for this strategy – designed to improve pace, consistency and execution efficiency over time. Working with a single engineering partner across multiple projects allows:
- lessons learned to be applied from one project to the next
- increased replication and standardization
- streamlined project engineering delivery
- enhanced adoption of digital tools and systems
- innovation and continuous improvement.
This approach supports disciplined capital investment while maintaining momentum, even in a demand-driven market environment.
A key focus of the partnership agreement is on replication and digital delivery, which will drive improved efficiency and consistency, reduce execution risk and support more predictable outcomes as projects are delivered at scale. Over time, this approach supports a more resilient system where infrastructure can be developed faster, safer and with greater confidence.
“APA continues to pursue growth across our gas transmission and storage assets nationally. Partnerships that complement the existing strong skills we have internally will be critical to the safe and efficient delivery of key programs of work. We look forward to working with Worley as we move forward,” said Rob Evans, Group Executive, Infrastructure Delivery.
“We are pleased to partner with APA to deliver critical gas transmission and storage projects across Australia. Worley has a long history of delivering complex portfolios both globally and locally and we will bring this experience to bear. APA and Worley will collaborate to efficiently meet critical infrastructure needs and strengthen energy security in our domestic market,” said Erica Jensen, SVP Global Operations, Australia.
Why this matters
Gas continues to play a critical role in firming renewables, supporting industry and maintaining power system reliability. The infrastructure decisions being made today will shape outcomes for the next decade.
Recent global energy market volatility, geopolitical disruptions and policy uncertainty have highlighted the importance of secure infrastructure that can respond to changing demand patterns and regional supply imbalances.
APA is an integral player in Australia’s east coast energy system, supporting energy needs today while preparing the network for the future.
