Engineering success through trust,
teamwork and innovation

“Successful outcomes depend on having honest conversations, trusting each other and finding solutions together.”

Trust, teamwork and technical expertise. These are the key ingredients that allow Consuelo Sepúlveda to get her job done.

Consuelo joined us eight years ago and is now Principal Process Engineer in our Santiago, Chile, office. She designs processes that turn raw materials – particularly lithium – into functional products such as batteries, medicines and electric vehicle components.

“My job is to figure out the steps, one after the other, that make that transformation possible. It’s about designing the process flow that enables production,” she says.

Part of this process is fostering trust, listening carefully and maintaining open communication both within her team and with customers.

“Any process I design only works if it’s developed collaboratively with other disciplines, like mechanical, piping and instrumentation engineers,” she says. “So, my role is also about building partnerships across Worley and valuing everyone’s input.”

Finding a creative focus

With a background in chemical engineering, Consuelo began her career working in plant operations in the paper and copper industries. She moved into engineering design to pursue her passion for creating and designing.

“I wanted to innovate and come up with new ideas, rather than just respond to day-to-day operational issues,” she explains.

Growth for her has come through a blend of structured learning and hands-on experience. Consuelo also highlights the importance of knowledge sharing, both as a learner and now as a team leader who supports the development of others. That focus on people resonates strongly with what she values most about our culture.

“What stands out for me here is the genuine focus on people – not just so they can work efficiently but work well and happily. There’s an emphasis on seeing employees as individuals, and initiatives like Mental Health Champions that show a level of care I haven’t experienced anywhere else,” she says. Our emphasis on learning and exploring has also shaped Consuelo’s professional life. “I really appreciate the opportunities for development we have here, from online courses to knowledge-sharing sessions,” she says.

Embracing change, seeking growth

Consuelo’s ambition is to continue growing both as a process engineer and as a team leader. “I love designing processes, but leading teams is equally rewarding. Especially the teams I’m working with right now – seeing their creativity and energy in action really inspires me. Ideally, I want to get better at guiding all that so we can deliver the strongest results,” she says.

For those considering a similar career path, her advice is straightforward. “In my role, every day brings different challenges and rewards. Nothing is static, so you need to be able to embrace change, seek growth and stay open to new experiences. That’s all that really matters.”
