Headshot of Sandra Tan of Worley.

As Global Director for Commissioning, Completions and Startup, Sandra Tan is key to ensuring projects don’t just reach completion, they’re set up to perform from day one. Working across regions, disciplines and delivery stages, Sandra brings structure, clarity and a collaborative mindset to some of our most complex projects.

Based in the UK and supporting teams across the globe, Sandra sits at the intersection of engineering, construction and operations, helping teams think differently about how early decisions shape final outcomes.

“What really drove my decision to join Worley was meeting the team in person. The conversations just clicked. My values were aligned with what Worley is trying to deliver here.”

Starting from the finish line

For Sandra, effective delivery begins long before commissioning activities are visible on site. Her focus is on early alignment, bringing commissioning thinking into the design and planning phases to reduce risk, improve efficiency and avoid costly rework later.

By working closely with engineering and supply chain teams from the outset, Sandra helps ensure priorities are clear and expectations are aligned across the full project life cycle.

“There’s a big element around aligning with engineering and supply chain early, so priorities and expectations are understood. That alignment makes everything more efficient.”

Powered by global connection

Leading a globally distributed function, Sandra sees our scale as a strength. Strong communication, trust and a willingness to reach across borders mean teams can solve problems quickly and tap into specialized expertise no matter where it sits.

Since joining in 2025, Sandra has actively invested time in relationship building. Making connections across regions so people know who to turn to when things get challenging.

“Good communication is everything. If something’s not clear, pick up the phone. That’s often the best way forward.”

Building capability that lasts

Beyond individual projects, a key focus for Sandra is strengthening our commissioning capability. Creating consistency, developing people and ensuring that the right expertise is embedded early to support long term outcomes for customers and communities.

She describes a culture where people are motivated, supportive and willing to step in to help build something better together, even across time zones.

“The energy behind the team is a big driver. Everyone’s saying, ‘Let’s do this, I’ll take this part, you take that part.’ The collaboration’s been really good.”

Defining the path forward

Sandra’s excited by the opportunity to influence how projects are delivered from the very start. Defining the right path early and continuously improving how work gets done.

“Getting in early is the fun part. If we help define the path upfront, everything becomes easier as the project progresses.”

Reflecting on her journey so far, there’s motivation in knowing there’s still more to build. And it’s that sense of momentum that makes her work meaningful.

“It’s been exciting. There’s a lot to learn, a lot to do and a lot more to come.”
