Partnering for performance with bp: Boosting value in Oman

Working as one team with bp to safely minimize costs, create value, and support Oman’s energy future.

The Block 61 (Khazzan and Ghazeer) gas field supplies around one-third of Oman’s total gas demand. Together with bp, we’re reducing the cost and complexity of expanding this critical energy resource – delivering results through a single, integrated alliance team.

Working together, we’re cutting costs and boosting our competitive edge. By standardising how we buy and source materials, getting smarter with our specifications and getting lean with our construction and infrastructure, we’re able to save money, simplify processes, and get better deals. These savings help us deliver more value for bp and support Oman’s goals.

Unlocking value in one of Oman’s most technically challenging gas fields

Discovered more than 25 years ago, the Block 61 gas field is a cornerstone of Oman’s energy supply. But tapping into its low permeability reservoirs requires advanced extraction and engineering techniques – along with cost discipline and efficiency across every stage of delivery.

As part of our global strategic alliance, we’re working side-by-side with bp’s Site Projects team to connect new gas wells in the Block 61 field. The result: a more agile, integrated model that’s delivering up to 11‑13 percent in savings and setting a new benchmark for collaboration.

Delivering smarter, safer and more efficient outcomes

We’re focusing on challenging conventional approaches and finding practical ways to reduce spend – without compromising safety, quality or performance. To date we’ve collectively achieved:

  • One team, shared results: We integrated into a single delivery team with bp, eliminating duplication and saving $2‑3 million.
  • Smarter specifications: By identifying where legacy requirements added unnecessary cost, we reduced gas gathering pipeline spend by up to 18 percent.
  • Simplified sourcing: Using supply chains in lower-cost markets and standardized procurement strategies, we saved $1.3 million.
  • Fit-for-purpose design: Swapping complex gas flow meters for simpler, safer alternatives cut unit costs by 55 percent.
  • Lean construction: Consolidating construction scopes and optimizing unit rates delivered another $5‑6 million in savings.
  • More efficient infrastructure: Streamlining well pad and road designs saved over $1 million.

A model for future delivery – together

This project is a testament to what’s possible when we take a unified approach with our customers – aligned on purpose and outcomes. Together, we’ve achieved efficiency gains while keeping safety first as we approach our 10 million safe workhours milestone. With a one team mindset, we’ve shown how informed, collaborative decisions can drive better outcomes.

Overall, our global alliance aims to save $40 million over two years through joint expertise and aligned delivery, supporting bp’s global performance goals.

For over a decade, we’ve been partnering with bp on the development of Block 61 in Oman. From early infrastructure and pipeline connectivity to celebrating first gas at Khazzan in 2017 and Ghazeer in 2020, we’ve supported across key phases. Today, we continue to deliver value as part of an integrated alliance with bp, contributing to Oman’s energy security and national development priorities – advancing in-country value and Omanization targets.

"In Oman, we’re partnering with bp to deliver smarter, more efficient execution – simplifying specifications, optimizing designs, and consolidating scopes to achieve measurable cost savings without compromising safety or quality. With 56% Omanization and a centralized procurement hub in Oman supporting bp’s operations across Europe and Africa, we’re building enduring local capability and contributing to broader performance outcomes across bp’s portfolio. This isn’t just a project – it’s a model for replicable, high-performance delivery."
