K+S Potash Canada recognizes safety leadership from Worley on cogeneration project
Worley’s Canada construction team has received the K+S 2025 Large Project Contractor Safety Award for its work on the cogeneration project for K+S Potash Canada (K+S).
K+S’ Contractor Safety Award recognizes organizations that demonstrate the company’s belief that nothing is more important than health and safety. The evaluation considers formal and informal measures, including observations, audits, inspections, incident management, ownership, continuous improvement, and contributions to site safety culture.
Worley was recognized in the Large Project category for its work on K+S’ cogeneration project in Saskatchewan, Canada. Worley’s scope includes construction, commissioning, and startup with some engineering support.
“The culture of care and teamwork that has been established drives success in safety,” said Jordan Hintz, Senior Manager, HSSEQ at K+S Potash Canada. “The risks that have been managed successfully have been across all disciplines.”
The project will provide steam and electric power to support K+S future production. Once operational, the units are expected to give the facility greater self-sufficiency and more control over power supply and pricing.

K+S said the Worley team stood out for its teamwork, a collaborative approach to safety learnings, management of risk across disciplines and contributions to K+S’ safety program through systems, ideas and solutions.
The team’s approach included daily toolbox talks, field-level risk assessments completed at the work location, and Life Conversation Cards to capture safety observations, interventions and positive recognition across the project.
K+S presented the team with a traditional mining lantern as the award trophy, reflecting the company’s German mining heritage.
“This recognition reflects the way our people show up every day, caring for one another, managing risk and delivering work safely for our customers. Thank you to every one of our colleagues who worked on this project,” said Tim Burnham, Canada operations leader at Worley.
