Reducing single-use plastics: a global shift across Worley
Worley has completed its phase out of the provision of single-use plastics across offices and fabrication yards.
The phase-out includes items such as plastic straws, cups, lids, water bottles, cutlery, crockery, bags (excluding bin liners), and food containers. It also covers paper cups with plastic linings, compostable or biodegradable plastics in locations without composting infrastructure, and oxy-degradable plastics. In some locations, additional single-use items such as packaging have also been reduced.
The phase-out has been verified across 161 offices and fabrication facilities in 44 countries as at 30 June 2025. Exceptions have been allowed in seven percent of Worley locations due to local conditions such as the availability of safe drinking water, food safety requirements, or contractual obligations. Worley continues to work with local teams and customers to identify practical, sustainable alternatives in these areas.
“This milestone reflects our broader sustainability ambition, but we know that maintaining and improving this achievement will require ongoing vigilance,” said Dr Clare Anderson, Group Director Sustainability Performance at Worley.
“Making considered procurement choices and continuing to challenge the necessity of single-use items will be key to maintaining this progress,” she added.
