Petrogas selects Worley to deliver pre-FEED Study for Abeona CCS project in the Netherlands
Worley has been selected by Petrogas E&P Netherlands B.V. to deliver the pre-front-end engineering design (pre-FEED) for the Abeona Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) project, located in the Dutch North Sea.
The Abeona project will develop a CO2 transport and storage solution for hard-to-abate industrial emitters in the North Sea Canal Area and regions in the Netherlands. The development will use a combination of repurposed offshore infrastructure and new facilities to safely store captured CO2 permanently in depleted reservoirs offshore.
As part of pre-FEED, Worley will refine the development concept, with a focus on establishing a robust technical foundation, reducing execution risk, and delivering cost estimates for subsequent project phases.
The project may reuse an existing pipeline to transport CO2 from the Port of Amsterdam to offshore storage sites, where it will be injected into depleted oil reservoirs.
“This award reflects our strong track record in delivering integrated solutions for carbon capture and storage as well as our experience in North Sea offshore developments. We look forward to supporting Petrogas in advancing the Abeona CCS project toward a robust and executable design,” said Jon Wilson, Operational leadership at Worley.
Worley will integrate key project elements to ensure alignment across facilities and pipeline systems, supporting a coordinated approach to pre-FEED delivery and enabling a more efficient transition into the FEED phase.
The Abeona CCS project is expected to build scalable CO2 infrastructure in the Netherlands, providing hard to abate industries a practical pathway for to reduce emissions through permanent offshore storage.
