A team that works across borders –
and beneath them

“This is a place where you can reinvent yourself again and again. Growth isn’t linear here, it’s exponential.”

David Haskins of Worley

Geoscience is a discipline built on diversity – of thought, of terrain and of experience. That same spirit defines the team that David Haskins, APAC Geosciences Lead, has created.

“You won’t find two days the same in our team,” says David. “And you won’t find two people who got here the same way either.”

With people working across Asia Pacific and project ties that stretch around the world, our Geosciences group works at the intersection of earth, engineering and innovation. Their mission? To help design the invisible systems that make energy, resources and infrastructure possible – from the ground up.

“We’re not just building foundations,” says David, “we’re building the future of energy and infrastructure.”

A lifelong passion, built rock by rock

David didn’t stumble into geoscience; it’s been part of who he is since childhood. When he moved to Australia from South Africa, he brought with him nearly a tonne of rock samples he’d collected over a lifetime. Each one had to be carefully cleaned, certified and packed for import.

“They weren’t just rocks,” he says. “They were a record of my journey. A reminder of why I chose this path.”

That enduring passion is something he now fosters in others. Whether you’re starting out or stepping into leadership, David believes geoscience offers endless room to grow – because the Earth never stops presenting new challenges.

“It’s never black and white. It pushes you to think critically and stay curious. That’s the kind of mindset that thrives here.”

A team built on trust, challenge and opportunity

“We’re a high-trust environment,” David explains. “No pigeonholes, no micromanagement. We back people to think, lead and try new things.”

It’s this mindset that’s helped the team grow from a Perth-based group to a region-wide capability working across Australia, New Zealand, Southeast Asia and beyond. Together, the team tackle everything from offshore renewables to pumped hydro, ports, tunnels and tailings.

“We’ve had people join us early in their career and grow into technical leads. Others have shifted from site work into digital design. There’s no single path and that’s exactly the point.”

The result is a culture where people stay curious and connected to something bigger than themselves. “We’re not just doing geotechnical work. We’re shaping how infrastructure performs for decades. We’re underpinning what the energy transition stands on.”
